Structure and governance
Economics, Political Science, Sociology of Action, Organizations, Management, Transaction costs, Agency costs, Organizational dynamics, strategy, management control
The objective of the course is to provide a dense introduction to management and organizational concepts. In particular, the aim is to draw up an overview of the main theories of organizations and the firm (contractual paradigm, socio-cogenous paradigm) and to show how they give meaning to concrete management procedures, processes and devices.
A historical reflection is privileged throughout the course by taking Albert O. Hirschman's framework: Exit, Voice, Loyalty. In this way, the course aims to make practices and their evolutions intelligible, and thus to go beyond a strictly technical conception in order to situate the management tools in the context that presided over their elaboration.
Finally, the course offers original analyses relating in particular to technological developments that change the traditional representations of organizations and their management.
