French Civil Code in 1804 was born because of two men’s obstinacy : Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès and Napoléon Bonaparte. History of French private law sources course’s explains the reason of their struggle to promote unity by law, depicting the whole complexity of French legal tradition, which was historically dependent upon roman law, canonical law, custom and royal ordinances in the French “Grand Siècle”.
