Contemporary economic issues
Principles of economics, societal debates
This course on contemporary economic issues is intended for people who wish to mobilize the tools most frequently used by economists to understand and analyze current economic issues. It is intended for students who have no previous knowledge of economics, but who wish to learn about this discipline by studying some of the major contemporary societal debates: Does the state intervene too much or too little on markets? What is the impact of taxation on the competitiveness of economies? Is the French social protection system threatened? Is unemployment a necessity or a fatality? Are offshoring and immigration a cause of unemployment? What are the benefits and harms of globalization?

It is a generalist course, which leaves room for a lively presentation of economic theories and facts, without sacrificing the rigor and precision of the economic rationale. This course is also cross-curricular, serving as a link between the personal knowledge of students, often sparse, and the concepts taught in other courses, such as microeconomics and macroeconomics.
